Scintillation efficiency of liquid xenon for nuclear recoils with the energy down to 5 keV
The scintillation efficiency of liquid xenon for nuclear recoils has been measured to be nearly constant in the recoil energy range from 140 keV down to 5 keV. The average ratio of the efficiency for recoils to that for gamma-rays is found to be 0.19±0.02. PACS codes: 29.40.Mc, 78.70.-g, 78.60.-b, 95.35.+d
متن کاملDevelopment of a liquid scintillator-based 3D detector for range measurements of spot-scanned proton beams
The goal of the present study is to develop a liquid scintillator-based 3D detector and investigate its performance for beam range measurements in real time. The detector design consists of a tank filled with water-equivalent liquid scintillator that scintillates in response to incident proton beams. Three scientific complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (sCMOS) cameras collect the resulting ...
متن کاملProton decay in the large liquid scintillator detector LENA: study of the background
Using Geant4 Monte-Carlo simulations the potential of the Low Energy Neutrino Astronomy (LENA) liquid scintillator detector for the investigation of a possible proton decay within the channel p → Kν is discussed. Special emphasis is given to the study of background events.
متن کاملQuantum mechanical proton range in human body
Introduction: Proton therapy delivers radiation to tumor tissue in a much more confined way than conventional photon therapy thus allowing the radiation oncologist to use a greater dose while still minimizing side. Materials and Methods: protons release most of their energy within the tumor region. As a result, the treating physician can potentially give an...
متن کاملMEASUREMENT OF THE SCINTILLATION EFFICIENCY OF Na RECOILS IN NaI(Tl) DOWN TO 10 keV NUCLEAR RECOIL ENERGY RELEVANT TO DARK MATTER SEARCHES
We present preliminary results of measurements of the quenching factor for Na recoils in NaI(Tl) at room temperature, made at a dedicated neutron facility at the University of Sheffield. Measurements have been performed with a 2.45 MeV mono-energetic neutron generator in the energy range from 10 keV to 100 keV nuclear recoil energy. A BC501A liquid scintillator detector was used to tag neutrons...
